My name is Specialist Arcangel. I'm a soldier in the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division and this is my weblog. I created this blog to keep friends and family updated on things I'm doing in Iraq. Operation Iraqi Freedom Part 3 told by me. NOTE: Because of Operational Security(OPSEC), I will not post images of my communications equipment, give details about my job, show images of security check points, or give in depth descriptions of certain incidents or events.

Today I spent my day off exploring around Taji/Camp Cooke taking photos with Ross. Unfortunately the sun didn't want to cooperate with us. Still got a few photos and we both agreed to take at least one day a week to walk around the base and explore. There are many abandon buildings to snoop around in. We found a pile of old Iraqi Air Force anti aircraft guns and other Iraqi military stuff.DSCN0039cDSCN0073DSCN1440eDSCN0017

These are a few photos I took today. I'm a little too annoyed to finish this post. Time to sleep.

Camp Cook/Taji Iraq

Iraq so far isn't that bad. Mortar attacks happen daily. We don't worry too much about them though. They never hit anything. Life on Camp Cook(or Camp Taji, which ever you prefer to call it) is pretty not bad. We have running showers with hot water, porcelain toilets that flush, a dfac(dining facility) that can win culinary awards. Aside from the daily mortar/small arms fire/rpg attacks, we pretty much living the sweet life.

Iraq itself smells like crap. The weather has been getting warmer. Highs about mid 50s-60 and goes down to about low 40s at night. The scenery in Iraq is interesting to say the least. There is grass and trees here in Iraq. I was suprised to see them. Kuwait looked more like a desert then Iraq. I am awaiting my new camera in the mail. I'm really itching to start taking photos again.

What happened to Kristen you ask? Kimberly is the new girl of my life. I plan to spend my whole deployment with her. Maybe when I get back Kristen and I can try again, but for now I Love Kimberly. <3<3<3 CIMG0172

Welcome to Baghdad International

Landing in Baghdad International early this morning 5AM here which is 9pm EST. Flew in on a C-130. It's what the military uses to transport paratroopers and cargo. The flight was pretty loud but I managed to sleep during most of it. The decent is a little rough. You fall 30,000 feet in 3 minutes. In a commerical airline it takes a good 10 minutes.

The current temperature here in Baghdad is in the low to mid 40's. It rained last night and now all the sand has turned into mud. Its rather annoying.
It looks like a different world here in Baghdad from Kuwait. You can definatly tell Baghdad International went through a war because it looks pretty beat up. I imagine it was very nice at one time.

I'm pretty tired from lugging all my bags and gear here and there. I'll post again when I get to Taji which is my destination. Forgot to mention I'm at Camp Stryker right now. They keep us here before for a bit before they take us to Taji. It's right next to the airport.
